Jim
Rhoads M.Div, Executive Director
Serving
as executive director and founder of Pacifica
Recovery Services, Jim Rhoads is recognized
as a pioneer leader in the chemical dependency
treatment field. For more than 35 years he
has been involved in developing and implementing
treatment services, including those which
address the chronic pain syndrome and its
complications of dependency on narcotics.
In addition, he developed state of the art
detoxification treatment that is humane and
safe, taking away the patient’s fear
and agitation in the initial days of withdrawal
from alcohol and other drugs.
Over the years Jim discovered a high percentage
of women in treatment suffered from anorexia
or were bulimic, presenting a serious problem
to their recovery. Often an underlying problem
masked by pain and medication, an eating
disorder can lead to death as in the case
of Karen Carpenter. To address this serious
illness, Jim developed an eating disorder
program.
Though he serves as an executive director,
Jim wears many hats. With his vast experience
in the field, he serves as clinical supervisor,
treatment specialist and an often called
upon guest lecturer to a variety of academic
institutions, including the Claremont Colleges,
Claremont School of Theology, and the University
of La Verne to name a few. In addition,
he has lecture in the Introduction to Clinical
Medicine Course at University of Southern
California School of Medicine and Loma Linda
University Medical School. Currently he
supervises the chemical dependency rotation
for third year medical residents in the
family practice residency program at Pomona
Valley Hospital Medical Center, Pomona,
CA.
