Intensive Outpatient Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders

Pacifica Recovery provides an intensive outpatient program for co-occurring chemical dependency and mental health disorders at the Old Schoolhouse in Claremont. The treatment program is 8:30 am to 2:00 pm Monday through Friday. This program specialized in treating patients who become dependent upon prescribed medication due to chronic pain disorders, anxiety disorders or depressive disorders. The program addressed these issues in conjunction with treating the chemical dependency disorder.

Over the years, health plans have reduced benefits for treating chemical dependency and mental health. Many health plans do not have a rehabilitation benefit for chemical dependency. A few years ago, the federal government passed a law that health plans must provide a mental health benefit equal or on par with medical benefits. These are called “parity benefits.”

With our accreditation under the behavioral health standards, we are contracted with most health plans and treat chemical dependency disorders as a co-occurring disorder of a mental health issue. Most individuals with a chemical dependency disorder have underlying emotional or mental issues that the person is treating with the substance(s).

Focus of Treatment

The treatment focuses on the underlying causes of one’s substance use. The program embraces the 12 steps and requires abstinence and attendance to 12 step meetings. In addition, treatment focuses on underlying issues of family dysfunction in childhood, unresolved abuse or trauma, anxiety disorders often accompanied with obsessive-compulsive disorders, and major depression. The program integrates the neurological information of the addicted brain and the neurological and psychological information related to trauma. Many individuals who have tried recovery in some form, but have not been successful, may be medicating emotions of which they are not aware. With these two bodies of knowledge, the program helps individuals develop a recovery program based on healthy emotional and spiritual principles.
