Treatment for Compulsive Overeating or Binge Eating

Pacifica provides a separate treatment track for compulsive overeating. In September 2008, Pacifica created a separate treatment track for compulsive over eating. This track has been successful in helping clients understand obsessions and compulsions related to food, develop and follow an individualized food plan, and obtain weight loss. This treatment track is not another diet or weight loss strategy, but a mental health program that addresses the obsessions and compulsions related to food.

Compulsive overeating, or binge eating, is an eating disorder that is characterized by compulsively eating large amounts of food or eating continuously regardless of hunger. Many individuals with this disorder have a pattern of losing significant amounts of weight, only to regain the weight later. These individuals report a history of multiple diets and weight loss strategies, only to resume compulsive eating following the diet. Some clients have had weight loss surgery, only to continue compulsive eating, resulting in significant loss of personal integrity, esteem and hope. The reason for the weight re-gain is that weight loss strategies do not address the compulsive nature of the disorder.

The compulsive over eating program provides a unique answer for this disorder! The program is two evenings a week from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Pacifica Recovery is accredited by the Joint Commission and contracted with most health plans. Health plans cover compulsive over eating as a mental health condition.
